June 8, 2010 is the first day to begin signing designating petitons in the State of New York.
It only takes 5% of the enrolled voters of a political party in the political unit or 900 voters, or which ever is less to file for City Council in the City of New York.
In the last City Council Election 25% of the candidates were elected unopposed in the General Election.
